  Bevelling
part 1
This tutorial is about using different bevel functions. I developed this effect when I was playing around with Paint Shop Pro and hope you will like the effect.

If you have questions please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

An organisatorial remark: Since I had to do a lot of screenshots I decided to divide this tutorial into two pages to make loading faster.

But now let's go! :))

Open a new picture("File"/"New", 300x150 pixels, background white, foreground white, resolution 150 p/inch.

Open a new graphic

colortab.jpg - 3072 BytesSet the foreground and background color to white. This is important for the functions we want to use later in this tutorial.

Activate the text tool. You may want to use Times, size 90, color white. Click the "bold" button. Enter some text (I always use my favourite: ABC). Set "Create as" to "Floating".

ABC

Center the floating selection so you have sufficient space around it in your graphic.

White text, centered

Now click "Selections"/"Modify"/"Feather" and set the number of pixels to 5.

As result the graphic looks a littlebit swollen.

applied feather

For the next step please activate the flood fill tool flood fill tool, set the fill style to "Linear Gradient" and the color setting to "Red-yellow-red". Please set the other settings as you see them on the screen shots below.

Click inside the text selection and see what happens:

Now we use the first bevel function. Click "Image"/"Effects"/"Inner Bevel" and choose "Angled" from the drop-down menu in the upper middle.

Inner Bevel window

Click "OK" to use the effect on the graphic.

Applied Inner Bevel

Please go to the next page to go on with this tutorial.
