Making Tubes

Another tutorial for PSP 7. If you're familiar with using tubes you know that they are a very handy thing. Perhaps you even heard that one can develop own tubes. Here's how it works.
Since I made quite a few screenshots again please be patient while the pics load.

If you have questions please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.

But now let's go! :))

First we need two graphics to play with.
Please right-click the following two graphics and by choosing "save target as" (not "save as" because then you would download the jpg graphics from the screen) save them to your pc. They are in PSP7 format and should work ok.
sample 1 sample 2

Next we need a grid. Please click "File/Preferences/General Program Preferences" (see pic).

Open the "Rulers and Units" tab and set the values according to the next picture.

Open the two sample graphics in Paint Shop Pro and open a new graphic (240 pixels wide / 120 pixels high, resolution 72 dpi / background transparent).

To see the grid click "View/Grid". Then a vertical line in the middle of the graphic should appear (Image 4).

Click on the title of the first graphic to activate it, then press "CTRL+A" to select the whole graphic. Next press "CTRL+C" to copy the graphic to the clipboard.

Click on the title of the new graphic to activate it, then press "CTRL+E" to paste the clipboard contents as a selection. Place it in the middle of the left half of the graphic as seen on the next pic.

Now do the same with the second graphic and place it on the right half of the new graphic.

To get rid of the selection (the "marching ants") press CTRL+D.

Now click "File/Export/Picture Tube".

Set the values as follows: Across "2" (because the two graphics are side by side), Down "1" (because we only have one line), Placement mode "Random" to make them appear randomly, step "200" (to leave some space before the next graphic appears if you keep the mouse button pressed and draw a line), and selection mode "random" again. Since we want to save the new tubes file to our harddisk we need a name. I chose "testballs" but you could use any other name.

The new tubes file will be saved to your tubes folder (see picture below) so that you can copy and send it by e-mail, save it to another place for backup or whatever.

The last step: In order to let you use the new tube please shut down Paint Shop Pro and start it again. Open a new graphic, activate the "Tubes" tool and open the list. You'll find your new tube alphabetically ordered, ready for use :)
