This is my fourth tutorial using PSP7. I found out about a neat effect using
the feather filter. Since I made quite a few screenshots again please be
patient while the pics load.
If you can't find the shapes I use you can use any other shape available
or go to JASC's download area from which
I got all the shapes I use with PSP.
If you have questions please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
But now let's go! :))
Open a new picture("File"/"New", 150x150 pixels, background white, resolution
72 p/inch.
Select the shapes tool
and go to the tool options window. If you can't find it on the screen you
can always open it through the "tool options toggle" button in the top icon
row of PSP. Use the following setting:

Now use the shapes tool to draw the button all across
the graphic. Then create a new layer using the layer palette window.
Just right-click the background layer and choose "new layer".

Next we want a second shape on the new layer. For this click on the
shapes tool again, go to the tool options and get the following shape:

The graphic should look like this after you applied the new shape:

Since
we are working on the upper layer we can use a trick: Select the "magic
wand" to
select the empty space around the ball.
Using the STRG+SHIFT+I keys we invert this selection.
Now cut the ball from the selection using STRG+X. You'll notice that
the selection "ants" are still marching.
Click Selection/Modify/contract:
Set the value to 20:
Now the graphic looks like this:
We're nearly there! Use the STRG+H keys to open the feather dialogue
and set it to 20:
 Into
the selection we paste the cutout ball again using the STRG+SHIFT+L
keys. As last step you only have to get rid of the selection marking
by using the STRG+D keys. That's it.
This finishes the "Feathered" Tutorial.
