You probably know the function "Sharpen" and noticed that it's not always
doing what you need.
Much better results can be achieved by so-called "Unsharp Masking".
First we need an example graphic which looks like this:

Please right-click the picture and choose "Save link as" from the option
menu to download the graphic to your harddisk. Once on your pc, open it
in Paint Shop Pro.

Due to the problem that I can't run two different language versions of
PSP on my pc the screenshots are in German. Never mind, you should still
be able to follow easily. Click "Effects"/"Sharpen"/"Unsharp Mask" you
open the following window:

Enter the settings as you see them on the screenshot (Although they are
in German, the positions of the settings are the same) and click OK.
Try that with "Sharpen" and you'll see how stunning this little effect
is.

Other photos may require other settings. Just try until you're satisfied
with the result.
